Dampening solution hardness regulation

The method involves determining and storing value pairs of conductivity of dampening solution (12) and hardness to determine formula-based correlation between the hardness and conductivity of the dampening solution. A predetermined amount of the dampening solution is guided over an ion exchanger (28). A differential correlation between conductivity increase and/or conductivity decrease and/or hardness increase and/or hardness decrease is determined and stored from measured conductance values before decrease of the solution amount and after addition of hardened dampening solution. An independent claim is also included for a device for preparing dampening solution of a wet offset printing machine.
