A hydrogen production process and production plant (10) operable to produce, at least, Hydrogen and Carbon dioxide, the process comprises a recycle loop, wherein tail gas (100, 200, 300) produced downstream in the process is used upstream of the process at a shift reactor and at least one of providing heat for drying coal (18) and providing heat for regenerating CO2 (22). Also claimed is a hydrogen production plant comprising means for drying coal, gasifying means, gas cooling means, means for removing and regenerating carbon dioxide and pressure swing adsorption (PSA) means to separate and exhaust hydrogen from the plant, wherein the plant operates according to the process above. |
