DC powered lighting via Power over Ethernet cables

In a Power over Ethernet (PoE) network in which CAT5e/6 cables carry both electrical power (up to 60W under the Cisco UPoE or PoE+ standard) and data to domestic devices, photovoltaic (PV) solar modules (2) provide DC power via storage cells (6) to eg. LED lighting fixtures (14a-c). A transformer may allow a supplementary AC mains supply, and the internet connection (18) also allows the lights to be controlled remotely.
