METHOD FOR DIAGNOSING POSTOPERATIVE BILIARY PERITONITIS

A method for diagnosing postoperative biliary peritonitis provides for assaying the direct bilirubin and total cholesterol in the exudate from peritoneal cavity. The samples are taken from the drainages installed in the primary surgery or after the exploration of the central or counteraperture wound. When the content of the direct bilirubin and total cholesterol in the exudate exceeds at least three-fold the serum content with the normal preoperative bilirubin or equals the serum content with preoperative hyperbilirubinemia, the approaches for the treatment and the diagnostics should be revised extending the indications for the diagnostic relaparoscopy, repeated exploration of the central or counteraperture wound for defining and substantiating the reliable indications for relaparotomy.
