The present invention relates to a negative electrode active material for a lithium secondary battery which comprises the following: a core containing a material capable of doping and dedoping lithium; a layer of oxide of the material capable of doping and dedoping lithium formed on the outside of the core containing the material capable of doping and dedoping lithium; and a carbon layer formed on the outside of the layer of oxide of the material capable of doping and dedoping lithium. The present invention also relates to the a lithium secondary battery including the negative electrode active material.
