发明名称 Improvements in or relating to the proofing against insects of absorbent articles and to compositions therefor
摘要 <p>Solid absorbent articles are proofed against attack by insects by impregnation with a solution in a volatile organic solvent or an aqueous dispersion of a benzene hexachloride and a synthetic resin or a synthetic resin-forming material, drying and then if necessary heating to a temperature sufficient to produce the polymerized or further condensed resin in situ. The impregnation may increase the weight of the dry absorbent article from 1 to 10 per cent. The benzene hexachloride may be a mixture containing at least 8 per cent by weight of the gamma-isomer, and may be deodorised. The benzene hexachloride may form from 1 to 20 per cent by weight of the total solids in the impregnating composition. The articles treated may be wool, silk, linen, cotton, jute, or hemp fabrics, carpets, curtains, blankets, upholstery, timber, pulp or paper boards and containers, sacking, canvas, ropes, cork, fibre board, wood, or book covers. The synthetic resin may be one produced by the polymerization or interpolymerization of ethylene, vinyl halides, vinyl alcohol, vinyl carboxylic esters such as vinyl acetate, acrylic acid, a -chloroacrylic acid, or methacrylic acid or esters or other polymerizable derivatives thereof, or may be a polyamide, an urea-, acetone-, melamine- or phenol-formaldehyde, a phenol-, furfural- or methylol-urea, or an alkyd resin. Mixtures of two or more such resins may be used. Plasticisers may be added. The benzene hexachloride and resin may be ground with water, plasticisers and emulsifying agent, and the dispersion diluted with water or violently agitated with water containing further emulsifying agent, or the benzene hexachloride may be ground with water and emulsifier and the dispersion mixed with an aqueous dispersion of resin or resin-forming material. The dispersion may be applied to a fabric by spraying or brushing, or by passage through a bath and then between rollers. The dispersion may also comprise benzene hexachloride and a monomeric or partially polymerized vinyl compound, methacrylate, or a -chloroacrylate, together with a polymerization catalyst. Benzene hexachloride may also be dispersed in an aqueous solution of a water-soluble thermosetting urea-formaldehyde resin, and the impregnated fabric heated to insolubilise the resin after drying, Specifications 573,689, 578,206, [Group VI]. and 592,674, [Group VIII], are referred to.ALSO:Solid absorbent articles are proofed against attack by insects by impregnation with a solution in a volatile organic solvent or an aqueous dispersion of a benzene hexachloride and a synthetic resin or a synthetic resin-forming material, drying, and then if necessary heating to a temperature sufficient to produce the polymerised or further condensed resin in situ.
