Disclosed is a method for setting up synchronization of device-to-device communication terminals based on a cellular communication system. The method for setting up synchronization of device-to-device terminals comprises the following steps of: receiving a message to instruct synchronization with a relevant terminal from a base station; selecting a first preamble to be transmitted to synchronize with the terminal based on the message to instruct synchronization, and transmitting the selected preamble to the terminal; receiving a second preamble from the terminal; and synchronizing with the terminal using the reception timing of the second preamble when the second preamble is the preamble designated by the message to instruct synchronization. Therefore, if the present invention is used, two terminals which directly communicates with each other can be synchronized using physical layer random access channel resources used by an existing mobile communication system.
