The present invention relates to electrolyte and a lithium secondary battery containing the same. The electrolyte contains an ether based compound with fluorine atoms and a sultone based compound as additives for the electrolyte. The electrolyte improves battery properties, especially the high voltage and high temperature properties of the lithium secondary battery, controls the generation of gas, and improves overcharge prevention properties.
