PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a washing method so that not only mud and sand adhered to wood chips but also impregnated sludge water, sea water and the like can be removed even if the wood chips are even waste wood.SOLUTION: Wood chips 13 and a washing liquid 14 are charged in a rotary drum 1 driving and rotating around transverse shaft center. The washing liquid 14 is applied with centrifugal force to such a degree that the washing liquid 14 falls apart from an upper half part on the inner peripheral surface of the rotary drum 1 according to the driving and rotating of the rotary drum 1. The washing liquid 14 is flown radially or almost radially toward the inner peripheral surface relatively from rotation center with respect to the rotary drum 1. The wood chips 13 rotate together with the rotary drum 1 while being held at least at a lower half part in the inner peripheral part of the rotary drum 1. The wood chips 13 are washed with the washing liquid 14 flowing in the rotary drum 1 and then are reduced with their accretion to become a fuel.
