An apparatus for detecting defects of light transmitting material is provided to detect defects of the light transmitting material precisely without mixing of noise to defect detecting light. An apparatus for detecting defects of light transmitting material comprises a light transmitting device(22), a light receiving device(24), a first polarizing plate(25), a second polarizing plate(26) and a defect judging unit(28). The light transmitting device irradiates light to the light transmitting material. The light receiving device detects light transmitted to the light transmitting material. The first polarizing plate is installed between the light transmitting device and the light transmitting material. The second polarizing plate is installed between the light receiving device and the light transmitting material, and disposed in cross Nicole with respect to the first polarizing plate. The defect judging unit judges existence of defects of the light transmitting material, based on a light receiving signal of the light receiving device. |
