PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide activated carbon which is excellent in hydrophilicity and whose steam adsorption amount is enhanced, and to provide a method for producing the same.SOLUTION: In the activated carbon, the amount of a basic functional group is 0.470 meq/g or more, and it is preferable that the amount of the basic functional group per specific surface area is 0.200 μmeq/mor more, and the ratio of the amount of the basic functional group to the amount of an acidic functional group, (amount of basic functional group/amount of acidic functional group), is preferably 1.00 or more. The method for producing the activated carbon includes a step of imparting the basic functional group to activated carbon by bringing the activated carbon into contact with a basic substance. In a preferable execution embodiment, the method further includes a step of heating the obtained activated carbon in an inert atmosphere. |
