PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an encoder capable of detecting a position with high accuracy and high resolution and improving space efficiency.SOLUTION: The encoder comprises: a base part; a cylindrical part rotatable in the circumferential direction relative to the base part; at least three support parts for rotatably supporting the cylindrical part with respect to the base part; a connection part provided on the cylindrical part so as to be rotatable within a first range between two support parts among the at least three support parts; a scale part attached to the cylindrical part; and a detection part for detecting the position of the cylindrical part relative to the base part by using the scale part. The detection part is arranged in a second range different from the first range.
