A method and an apparatus for encoding and decoding based on intra prediction are provided to predict and determine the intra prediction direction of a current block based on the intra prediction direction of a reference block to improve probability that information about the intra prediction direction is compressed, thereby improving the compression rate of image data encoding. A method for encoding based on intra prediction comprises the following steps of: determining the intra prediction direction of a reference block which moves as much as N pixels in an x-axial direction and M pixels in a y-axial direction from a current block(810); predicting the intra prediction direction of the current block on the basis of the intra prediction direction of the determined reference block(820); determining the intra prediction direction of the current block(830); and performing the intra prediction encoding of the current block on the basis of the predicted intra prediction direction and the determined intra prediction direction(840). |
