1,218,443. Stabilizing exposed photographic silver halide materials. EASTMAN KODAK CO. Jan.26, 1968 [Jan.27, 1967], No.4270/68. Heading G2C. Photographic silver halide materials containing in the emulsion or another layer at least one mole per mole of silver halide of a stabilizer precursor of the formula: - where R<SP>1</SP> is alkylene which may be substituted by alkyl or aryl, are stabilized by heating the material to above 90‹C. in the presence of a catalytic amount of water. Stabilizer precursors specified are S-thiouronium ethane, propane and butane sulphonates. The material preferably also contains an activator precursor which releases alkali on heating such as a salt of an organic base with an organic acid such as guanidinium or tetramethylammonium trichloracetate, amino acids, hydrazides, oxazolidones and sodium trichloroacetate. The material may also contain a silver halide developing agent, e.g. butyl-hydroquinone and pyrazolidones, and may be exposed to an image and then heated to develop and stabilize.
