PURPOSE: A shroud for monks using Korean paper is provided to maintain the characteristic texture and biodegradability of traditional Korean paper and to have excellent properties about antibiosis, antisepsis, strength, and texture. CONSTITUTION: A shroud manufacturing method using Korean paper are as follows. (a) The paper mulberry is collected and steamed with water vapor. (b) When the paper mulberry is sufficiently steamed, the bark is stripped from the paper mulberry. And white skin from which an outer shell is separated is soaked in running water for 20 - 30 minutes. (c) The soaked white skin is sliced, and boiled in lye for 4 - 5 hours. (d) The boiled white skin is washed in water for 50 - 100 hours, and the washed white skin is bleached by the sun. (e) The bleached white skin is beaten into a paper paste. The paper paste is mixed with water and hibiscus sap in a paper tub, and the mixture is stirred. (f) Korean paper is scooped by swinging bamboo blind in the paper tube containing a paper paste, and water is drained from the stacked paper by pressing. (g) The wet Korean paper is stacked and beaten, and the beaten paper is dried on a wooden plate. After drying up, Korean paper is completed. (h) A shroud is made by sewing the obtained Korean paper using backstitch. |
