PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a polymer electrolyte membrane which is excellent in mechanical strength and water resistance, and also economically advantageous.SOLUTION: A polymer electrolyte membrane has a structure where hydrophobic particles including a resin component (b) comprising an aliphatic hydrocarbon with no proton conductive group are dispersed in a matrix including a resin component (a) with a proton conductive group and an aromatic ring, and has a cross-linking density in the range of 0.02-1.00 mmol/L, the cross-linking density being obtained by a solvent swelling method. |
