The method involves causing pupillary response by a light event. The light event is determined (22) by a light sensor. The pupillary response ability variable represented as a function of time duration between two pupil states and function of pupil diameter, is determined. A sensor is used for determining the pupillary response ability variable. A lighting unit is used for supporting the determination of pupillary reponse ability. An independent claim is included for a device for determining pupillary response ability.
