The present art relates to a decoding device and method, an encoding device and method, and a program. Said art enables more immersive, high quality sound to be achieved. The encoding device stores speaker mapping information in a comment field, which is in a PCE of an encoded bitstream, and also stores a syncword and identification information in the comment field, so that other general comments that are stored in the comment field can be differentiated from the speaker mapping information. During decoding of the encoded bitstream, using the syncword and the identification information recorded in the comment field, it is determined whether the speaker mapping information is stored, and in accordance with the speaker mapping based on the determination result, audio data contained in the encoded bitstream is output. The present art can be applied to an encoding device. |
