PURPOSE: A light emitting diode driving apparatus and method are provided to prevent lifetime reduction by blocking excess current to be supplied to a light emitting diode by excessive input voltage. CONSTITUTION: A power supply unit(10) rectifies an AC power source using a bridge rectifier and changes it into ripple. A detection unit(20) comprises overvoltage detection, overvoltage interdiction, and current limit. A controller comprises a constant-voltage power supply and power control. The constant-voltage power supply changes the ripple received from the power supply unit into direct current and supplies it to the detection unit. The overvoltage detection stops the operation of output control by operating the overvoltage interdiction.
