The gear control oil pump (1) comprises a conveyor gear (2) and another conveyor gear (3) interacting with the former conveyor gear for conveying a fluid. The latter conveyor gear is assigned a pressure piston (9,10) arranged in a pressure cylinder (7,8) for displacing the latter conveyor gear in axial direction. Two spring elements (11,12) are designed such that the latter conveyor gear is pushed in an intermediate position lying between a position provided with a highest covering and another position provided with the lowest covering by spring forces in the pressure-free pressure cylinder. An independent claim is included for a method for operating a gear control oil pump.
