1312487 Complex lead (IV) acids and salts WASAG-CHEMIE AG 15 May 1970 [16 May 1969] 23661/70 Heading C1A [Also in Divisions C2 and C7] Complex lead (IV) acids, or salts thereof, having ligands which are the same or different and which are stabilized by inner complex formation are produced by reacting a lead (IV) compound with an acid containing the ligands as acid radicals, or by anodic oxidation of metallic lead with cooling at 40-60‹ C. in the same acid, then insolubilizing the soluble acid initially formed by allowing the solution to stand or by heating the solution or precipitating the salt of the acid by addition of an alkali or a salt having the same anion as the initial acid. The acids which may be used include 40-100% phosphoric acid, cone. sulphuric acid, and arsenic acid. Where the ligands are different they may be selected from phosphate, alkyl or aryl phosphate, sulphate and acetate. The lead (IV) compound may be lead (IV) acetate or another lead (IV) carboxylate, active PbO 2 or Pb 3 O 4 . When Pb 3 O 4 is used with phosphoric acid a mixture of the desired lead (IV) complex and lead (II) phosphate is formed, the ratio Pb (II) : Pb (IV) being the same as that in the Pb 3 O 4 .
