The hydraulic piston-cylinder unit has a cylinder (1) which is filled with a damping fluid. A kidney-shaped recess (14) is provided in the circumferential direction of the outer portion (16) with respect to the inner portion (15) of a valve disc (12). The initial stress of the valve disc is smaller than the initial stress on the spring. The valve disc is biased radially offset to the valve passage (8) at the pitch circle diameter (25). The lift-off distance of the valve disc from the valve seat surface (10) is limited to a maximum possible lift-off distance.
