A saw chain cutter link 12 comprises a forwardly projecting depth gauge 16, 20, the upper surface of which slopes downwardly and forwardly. A saw chain may include the cutter links 12, which are formed as side links, and further side links 11 connected by pivot pins to centre drive links, the chain being adapted to run along the guide bar 3 and a sprocket 5 in the nose 4 of a chain saw. The cutter links have a cutter portion 14 formed with an edge 15 and the depth gauges 16 have a rounded contact surface 17 and a forward projection 20 formed with a point 22 connected by a curved surface 23 to a straight edge 24. A line 27 tangent to the surface 23, 25 is up to 45 degrees but preferably 30 degrees to a line joining the pivot centres of the link so as to be parallel to the centres of the pivots joining adjacent side links as the links move around the nose of the chain saw. |
