Steel products are coated by applying a fluid coating which contains a substance which is at once a solvent and viscous. It contains, in suspension, at least one powdered metallic element. The treated steel is successively dried, re-coated and cleaned and can then be annealed by recrystallisation. The cost of this operation varies with that of the powdered metal, consequently metals of low intrinsic value are more economical. Accordingly, zinc and aluminium are particularly convenient. The process is used to proof finished or semi-finished steel products against corrosion and can be applied to sheet steel and wires.
|
