PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an endoscope apparatus that can suppress fluctuation of a focusing object position in an AF (autofocus) control, and to provide a control method or the like of the endoscope apparatus.SOLUTION: An endoscope apparatus includes: an imaging part 200 that has a phase difference detecting element for phase difference autofocus and acquires an imaged picture; a phase difference calculation part 330 for calculating a phase difference based on a signal sent from the phase difference detecting element; a lens position selection part 350 for selecting, based on the phase difference, a lens position out of a near-point side lens position and a far-point side lens position that are predetermined discretely; and a switch-driving part for switching a lens position of the imaging part 200 to a lens position selected by the lens position selection part 350.
