PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a coal carbonization apparatus in which an increase of the mercury concentration in the produced carbonized coal can be suppressed and to provide a facility for producing modified coal utilizing the coal carbonization apparatus.SOLUTION: The coal carbonization apparatus 120 of a rotary kiln type is constituted as follows. An inner cylinder 112 is supported rotatably on the inside of an outer cylinder 113, a heating gas 17 is supplied to the inside of the outer cylinder 113, dried coal 2 is supplied to the inside of the inner cylinder 112 from one end side thereof and the inner cylinder 112 is rotated so that the supplied dried coal 2 is heated/carbonized while being moved from one end side of the inner cylinder 112 to the other end side and while being agitated and the carbonized coal 3 and carbonization gas 14 are sent out of the other end side of the inner cylinder 112. A pulverized coal supply unit 170 for supplying pulverized coal 4a having 100 μm or smaller particle size to the inside of the inner cylinder 112 so that the supplied pulverized coal accounts for 1-10 wt.% of the amount of the carbonized coal 3 which is sent out of the other end side of the inner cylinder 112 is arranged in the coal carbonization apparatus. |
