PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal display device using a laser light source as a backlight light source, which has a small-sized and simple configuration and high uniformity.SOLUTION: A backlight 10 includes: a backlight enclosure 2 having a diffuse reflection surface on an inner surface thereof; diffuser 3 disposed so as to face a light emission surface of the backlight enclosure; a prism sheet 4 disposed opposite the backlight enclosure relative to the diffuser; a reflective polarizing plate 5 which is disposed opposite the diffuser relative to the prism sheet to transmit only light polarized in one direction and to reflect light polarized in a direction orthogonal to the one direction; and a plurality of laser light sources 1 which emit laser light into the backlight enclosure 2. A polarization direction of light which can be transmitted by the reflective polarizing plate 5 and that of laser light emitted from the laser light sources 1 are orthogonal to each other. |
