PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To surely suppress preignition while ensuring favorable startability of an engine 1 mounted in a vehicle or the like.SOLUTION: A start control device starting the engine 1 by cranking, includes a variable valve mechanism (VVT 40) capable of varying at least a close timing of an intake valve 13, and control means (ECU 200) which determines a temperature condition in the start, delays the start of the cranking (time t1-t2) when a predetermined high temperature condition is satisfied, and varies the close timing of the intake valve 13 to a delay angle side. |
