CATALYST FOR FIXATION OF MOLECULAR NITROGEN

The present invention provides catalyst for nitrogen fixation in solution comprises two and more metals chelated by macrocyclic ligand with conjugated system of &pgr;-electrons capable to form at least two patterns of aromatic macrocyclic conjugations. When nitrogen (dinitrogen) molecule coordinates on metal atoms of the catalyst, macrocylic ligand of the catalyst change its pattern of aromatic conjugation. As a result of this process four electrons from the catalyst ligand are transferred from the ligand to chelated metals followed by formation of metal-nitrogen bonds between molecular nitrogen (dinitrogen) and chelated metals.
