1310969 Oxidation catalysts A E & C I Ltd 3 July 1970 [4 July 1969] 32441/70 Heading B1E [Also in Division C1] Cobalt oxide-containing catalysts are made by a process comprising heating a mixture of (1) a cobalt compound from which active cobalt oxide is formed on heating, (2) aluminium nitrate and (3) calcium nitrate to a first temperature at which cobalt oxide is formed but calcium nitrate does not decompose, comminuting the resulting material, shaping the comminuted material into bodies and heating the bodies at a second temperature at which calcium nitrate reacts with the aluminium compound present for a time sufficient to complete the reaction between them, which second temperature does not exceed the temperature at which the cobalt oxide is deactivated. Preferably the first temperature is 250-300C and the second 650-950C. |
