1,223,419. Plug board control of machine tools. WICKMAN MACHINE TOOL SALES Ltd. 13 June, 1968 [26 June, 1967], No. 29336/67. Heading B3B. A plug board control system for a machine tool such as a lathe comprises a plug board having columns 1 and 2 having plug sockets P 1 /1 ... P 11 /1 and P 1 /2 ... P 11 /2, respectively, some or all the sockets in each column being grouped together, each group being arranged for the control of a particular part of the lathe, e.g. the spindle 10, carriage 11 or cross-slide 12. The insertion of plugs in selected sockets in each group determines the nature of movement of the machine part. Selector switches US1, US2 are operable to co-operate with the plug sockets of the respective groups and serve to complete the electric circuit when in co-operation with a plug in a given socket, the movement of the selector switch being terminated when it reaches a socket containing a plug but is reactuated by a signal when that stage in the operation of the machine part has been completed. The signal is provided by the actuation of a micro-switch positioned on a part of the machine and operable when two relatively movable parts of the machine attain a predetermined position with respect to each other. A further selector switch is provided for selecting the required column of socket groups. An electrical control circuit is described with reference to Fig, 4 (not shown). |
