A process for the incorporation of additives in polymer melts comprises forming a concentrated solution or dispersion of the additive using a solvent or dispersing agent comprising a molten copolymer of ethylene with vinyl acetate or an acrylic acid ester, said copolymer having a molecular weight between 1200 and 8000, and working the concentrate into the polymer melt. The additive may be a dyestuff, soot or stabilizer, and organic peroxide cross-linking agents may also be added. Examples describe the addition of concentrates comprising (1) ethylene/ vinyl acetate copolymer and yellow pigment, (2) ethylene / ethyl acrylate copolymer, soot and di-#-naphthyl-p-phenylenediamine and (3) ethylene / vinyl acetate copolymer and 2,21-methylene - bis - 6 - methylcyclohexyl - 4 - methylphenol to polyethylene; and a concentrate of (4) ethylene / vinyl acetate copolymer and dicumyl peroxide to an ethylene / vinyl acetate copolymer. |
