The present invention, especially for a container carrier, is to provide a method for using a weight as a ballast instead of seawater. To achieve such purpose, the present invention provides a method for operating the ballast of a container carrier which can remove a seawater ballast tank and a seawater ballast treatment device using a fixed ballast formed of a solid body as the ballast of the container carrier instead of seawater. The present invention can remove the seawater ballast tank and the seawater ballast treatment device because it does not use the seawater ballast. Since the seawater ballast treatment device is unnecessary, the present invention does not cause CO2 and additional power consumption. Also, as the seawater ballast is unnecessary, the PSPC is not applied and a pump and a seawater pipeline for the seawater ballast are unnecessary, thereby reducing the entire construction costs for a ship.
