Impregnating shins of fibres by passing them downwards through the gap between two cylinders turning in the direction of motion of the shein directly into and through a solution or dispersion of polymers. The cylinders are preferably immersed to their axes in the impregnating liquid and a long bath as shallow as possible used for impregnation. Both nature and synthetic but particularly the latter may be usefully treated. Viscous treating solutions may be applied. Uniform impregnation suitable for making synthetic leather is achieved.
