PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a reverse osmosis membrane desalination apparatus in which a reverse osmosis membrane element having deteriorated in performance can be specified even during operation of the desalination apparatus and to provide a method of inspecting the reverse osmosis membrane desalination apparatus. SOLUTION: The reverse osmosis membrane desalination apparatus includes a reverse osmosis membrane module 17 which has spiral type reverse osmosis membrane elements 15 (15-1 to 15-6) for obtaining transmitted water 14 from a center water collection pipe 13 by supplying supply water (raw water) 11 to a spiral reverse osmosis (RO) membrane 12, which are connected together in series by connection parts 16a and stored in a cylindrical pressure container 16, and a detection insertion tool 20 provided to one end 13a of the water collection pipe 13 of the reverse osmosis membrane module 17 through ball valves 18A, 18B, and the detection insertion tool 20 includes a hole part 21 for detection pipe, which has an axis aligned with the center axis of the water collection pipe 13, a flexible insertion detection pipe 22 which can be freely inserted into and extracted from the hole part 21, and an O ring 23 as a sealing part for sealing the insertion detection pipe 22.
