[Also in Division A4] In a washing machine, for dishes or laundry, detergents and other additives are placed in containers from which they are washed out by water from a number of parallel connected branches of a conduit, each branch when filled with water under pressure emptying one container and simultaneous pressure in two branches participating in producing a flow of water to empty a further container. As shown, the washing machine has a drum 3 rotated by motor 5 and supplied with water through two parallel branches 7, 8 controlled by electromagnetic valves 9, 10 controlled by the programme control. The detergent basin 11, Fig. 1, is divided into three compartments 12, 13, 14 for pre-wash and main wash detergent and after-rinsing agent. The outlets 15, 16 of branches 7 and 8 are located in the same plane above container 14 and directed into containers 13, 12 so that, by opening valve 10, valve 9, or valves 9 and 10 compartments 12, 13 or 14 can be emptied. In a modification, Fig. 2 (not shown), branches 7, 8 are split into main branches (29), (30) and side branches (27), (28) and the water from the combination of the latter side branches empties the container (24) of rinsing agent. In another embodiment, the basin 31 is divided by partition walls 47, 48 into containers 32, 33 for pre-wash and main-wash detergents and a compartment 34 into which extends a pipe 41 connected by a hose 42 to a bottle 44 for rinse agent. The outlets 35, 36 of the side branches 37, 38 of pipes 7, 8 are so connected to pipe 41 where it has a central partition 43 that, when water flows through both outlets 35, 36, it draws rinse agent out of bottle 44 which may contain sufficient for several cycles. In the arrangement of Fig. 4 (not shown) compartments (53), (52), (54) are emptied by conduit (70), conduits (69) and (70) and conduit (69) through side branch (58) of conduit (69), chamber (61) in conduit (70) and conduit (57) by opening respectively valve (60), valves (60) and (59) and valve (59). In the arrangement of Fig. 5, the outlets of conduits 90, 89 supplied through valves 80, 79 extend into the prewash detergent compartment 73 and the wash detergent compartment 72 and side branch 78 of conduits 89, opens into rinse agent container 74 and is controlled by a pressure sensitive valve 75 operated by the pressure in the side branch 77 of conduit 90. Thus when valve 80 is opened pre-wash detergent is washed out of compartment 73, when valves 80, 79 are opened washing detergent is washed out of compartment 72 and when valve 79 is opened rinse agent is washed out of container 74. Alternatively, valve 75 may be opened when valve 80 is opened with consequent variation in the operation.</p> |
