619,316. Cans &c. opened by tearing. LOFTS, S. E., and LOFTS, S. W. L. Dec. 2, 1946, No. 35668. [Class 66] The top of a can &c. is formed with a score line 23 adjacent to which is a reinforcing rib 24 corrugated at 25 transversely or at an angle, e.g. of 45 degrees to the rib 24, thereby strengthening the rib and ensuring that the tear is confined to the score-line when the can &c. is opened as by piercing and levering out the main, central part of the top of the can, or a small part to form a pouring outlet. In modified forms, the corrugations may be radial, or zig-zag, or as two or three intersecting sets of corrugations &c. The outer side 26 of the rib 24 may be normal to the top of the can. A lever lid may be used after opening the can. Specification 392,590 is referred to.
|
