Self-testing monitoring sensor

The sensor (1) has a transmission device (2), which transmits a radiation, particularly electromagnetic radiation, and a receiving device (3) for capturing radiations, particularly reflecting radiation radiated by the transmission device. A testing unit is provided for performing functional testing for a sensor component. The testing unit has an evaluation arrangement, which is designed to test a signal of the transmission device about the plausibility. A testing-component is provided for determining the intensity of the radiation radiated by a transmission element of the transmission device.
