A turbine engine component (16) includes a platform (22) and one or more microcircuit cooling passages (60,62) embedded within one or more walls (28,29) of an airfoil portion (26) of the component. Each microcircuit cooling passage (60,62) terminates within the thickness (T) of the platform (22) so as to provide cooling to the initial 10% span of the airfoil portion (26). Each microcircuit cooling passage (60,62) has an inlet (45) for receiving cooling fluid, which inlet (45) is also embedded within the platform (22).
