Disclosed are arrangements for eye pattern generation. In one embodiment, an input data signal is split (1) into first and second copies. The second copy is applied to conditioning circuitry (2) e.g. amplifier, filter, equalizer and then to clock recovery circuitry (3). The recovered clock is then used to clock the receiver (5) of the first signal which produces the eye pattern for the received data signal. Used with receivers having eye pattern circuitry embedded in an integrated circuit, but rely on the signal quality and frequency being sufficient for the receiver to lock onto the signal. Another embodiment (fig.2, not shown) does not require the conditioning circuitry if the received signal is of sufficient quality. In a further embodiment (fig. 3, not shown) the clock recovered from a first data signal is used to clock eye pattern generation circuitry which receives a second data signal which is different from the first signal. |
