PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To suppress image defects due to filming on a photoreceptor drum, and also, destaticize the photoreceptor drum. SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus includes: the rotatable electrostatic latent image carrier; a charging means which charges the surface of the electrostatic latent image carrier; a latent image forming means which exposes the surface of the electrostatic latent image carrier charged by the charging means and forms an electrostatic latent image; a developing means which supplies developer to the electrostatic latent image and forms a developer image; a transfer means which transfers the developer image to a transfer body; a removing means which removes the developer remaining on the surface of the electrostatic latent image carrier after the transfer process; and a destaticizing means which removes a potential remaining on the surface of the electrostatic latent image carrier after the transfer process. The destaticizing means is configured to destaticize the surface of the electrostatic latent image carrier based on the area of the electrostatic latent image formed on the surface of the electrostatic latent image carrier.
