<p>An adhesive, for carpet backing, having a softening point of at least 87.8 degrees C compromises (a) 10-35 wt. % ethylene copolymer (M.I. 1.2-35) contg. 60-85 wt. % copolymerised ethylene and 15-40 wt. % copolymerised lower vinyl ester, acrylate or methacrylate, e.g. ethylene-vinyl acetate; (b) 10-25 wt. % high melting wax e.g. Fischer-Tropsch wax, microcrystalline wax, polyethylene wax; (c) 50-70 wt. % resin consisting of (1) an aliphatic thermoplastic hydrocarbon (softening point 68-116 degrees C) free from polymerised aromatics and prepd. from dienes and lower alkene monomers e.g. "Piccopate" (R.T.M.) and (2) dicyclopentadiene-alkylation polymer resins (softening point 4.4-40.6 degrees C) e.g. "Piccovar" (R.T.M.). The ratio of (a) to (b) being 0.3 to 4.</p> |
