A horizontal spindle milling machine has two worktables 3a, 3b, each being displaceable along and pivotable about an elongated pivot member 5 so that each table can assume a horizontal position at a terminal loading and unloading station A or B, be pivoted to a vertical position and then transferred to a vertical machining position in a frame member 1 in which the workpiece may be machined by one or more milling spindles 16a, 16b carried on an overhung slide member 8. In the terminal position A or B the table 3a or 3b is received by a bracket 18a or 18b pivotable by rack and pinion means to and from the vertical position. In the central and vertical machining position hydraulic jacks 29a, 29b, 29c located either in the pivot bar 5 or in the frame 1 operate to lift the table slightly, which by means of inclined surfaces brings the table into accurate clamped location ready for machining to take place. |
