1288717 Electro-forming of cylinders XEROX CORP 19 April 1971 [30 Jan 1970] 20408/71 Heading C7B [Also in Division H1] A layer of nickel 35 is electro-formed on a mandrel 21 of chromium coated with aluminium or stainless steel at elevated temperature using an annular anode basket 24 containing nickel chips 25. The mandrel is axially aligned with the basket and is rotated on a shaft 27. The plating bath 23 comprises nickel sulphamate, nickel chloride, boric acid, sodium lauryl sulphate and the sodium salt of saccharin in specified proportions. The frame member 29 is movable horizontally and vertically so that the mandrel can be removed from'the tank. The layer 35 is removed from the mandrel 21 by immersing them in cold water whereupon the mandrel shrinks more than the layer which slips of the mandrel. In another embodiment, Fig. 3 (not shown), the anode basket (241) is cylindrical and located inside the mandrel. The electro-formed layer of nickel is removed by inserting a wedge-shaped separator (36) of polytetrafluroethylene between the layer and the mandrel, Fig. 4 (not shown).
