The present invention relates to an image information encoding method and an image information decoding method. The image information encoding method according to an embodiment of the present invention comprises the steps of: performing a prediction regarding a current prediction unit; entropy-encoding information regarding the current prediction unit; and transmitting the entropy-encoded information. In the step of performing the prediction, the current prediction unit is a 2N X 2N block which has a depth of 0. When a merge mode is applied to the current prediction unit, it may be presumed that a residual signal regarding the current prediction unit is present. According to the present invention, the quantity of information transmission can be reduced by considering the redundancy of information transmission with regard to respective modes of the prediction between screens.
