Water insol. monoazo dyestuffs (I) are prepd. by coupling the diazo cpd. of (II) with (III) at the reactive methylene gp. Y = OCH3 or NHR; R = H, or 1-4C alkyl; and X = H, halogen, methyl, methoxy, or ethoxy. - (I) are useful for spin dyeing viscose, cellulose esters, polyamides, polyurethanes, polyesters and polyacrylonitrile fibres, and also for pigmenting paints, rubbers and plastics. They are fast to light, migration, friction and solvents.
