A system and method of augmenting a virtual model and image data is provided. The method includes receiving a virtual model on a 5 portable computing device, estimating a field of view of the portable computing device, anchoring the virtual model relative to the field of view, and rendering the virtual model on image data associated with the field of view. The virtual model includes at least an anchor point to a physical location and an orientation and the virtual model is anchored using the 10 anchor point and the orientation of the virtual model.
