This pulse-width-modulated waveform generation device is provided with the following: a storage unit that stores data for one or more pulse-width-modulated waveforms; and a control unit that is electrically connected to said storage unit. The aforementioned data controls the on-off state of a switching element. Each pulse-width-modulated waveform is determined so as to either minimize the mean magnitude of harmonics in an input current inputted to the switching element, minimize the standard deviation of the magnitude of said harmonics, or minimize a ripple current flowing through a smoothing capacitor. The first half and the second half of each period of each pulse-width-modulated waveform are not complementary. On the basis of the data for the pulse-width-modulated waveform(s), the control unit creates a control signal that turns the switching element on and off and outputs said control signal to the switching element. This pulse-width-modulated waveform generation device is capable of reducing ripple current using a simple architecture and a simple control scheme. |
