The method involves electrically charging a power supply unit (3) to a predetermined charge state before or during driving a motor car (1). The power supply unit is electrically separated from an electrical onboard network (2) of the motor car after ending the driving operation. An activation signal is input into an input unit (7) in a parked state of the motor car such that the power supply unit is connected again with the electrical onboard network for terminating an over-discharging protective function as a result of the activation signal input. An independent claim is also included for a motor car.
