摘要 The present invention relates to an apparatus and a method for detecting a high impedance fault. The apparatus for detecting a high impedance fault includes: a voltage and current conversion part for converting an analog signal inputted from a voltage and current measuring instrument into a digital signal; a signal calculation part for calculating a root-mean-square value and a positive phase component, a zero phase component and a negative phase component from the digital signal; an over current fault recognition part for recognizing over current fault generation through the root-mean-square value; a high impedance monitoring data calculation part for calculating monitoring data, by performing average discrete wavelet transformation of period unit for the digital signal; a high impedance fault recognition part for recognizing an arc fault through the monitoring data, or recognizing a ground fault through the zero phase component and negative phase component change; and a fault judgment part for judging fault condition according to the recognition result of the over current fault recognition part and the high impedance fault recognition part.
